Wire wrapping for the first time

There is so many ways to make jewellery that it’s hard to just pick one! And combining different techniques will be easier if you have practised more than one. When I was on course I practised using Jeweller’s saw but hadn’t really done anything else with wire than simple loop. Since I can’t really use high heat at the moment in jewellery making I need to explore my options. So I started with wire trapping.

For tooling I ordered Jeweller’s saw with blades from a wholesale and a bench pin from Amazon. Picked up pliers, file, sanding papers, rotary tool and wire cutters from a local hardware store since they were quite inexpensive there. Materials are mostly from Amazon – got a set of copper wires and a couple of copper plates. I already had a couple of gemstones so I decided to use those for practise before ordering more.

First attempts

At first I didn’t really know how or where to start so I went online to see different ways people wrap gemstones. Still, I was probably too eager to get started. Should’ve planned before just making something. But it kinda helps to get the idea of the material. The wire hardens when it’s worked and there’s a point when it just snaps from twisting.

I watched some more jewellery things online and I think I have a more planned pendant idea on my mind. Just need to figure out where I want to buy the gemstone and something to polish it with. Trying to stay in some sort of budget since I’m a student. But I think everyone needs a hobby. At first I didn’t feel like sharing my first attempts at all but for the shit and giggles:

My inner child had some fun. (Didn’t have a matching chain – that’s on my shopping list)
